The Art of Starting Anew: Embracing New Beginnings in Life
There is something fresh and clean about starting something new. Turn over a new leaf. Break new ground. Get the ball rolling. Whatever your favorite idiom may be, it doesn’t matter—what does matter is the feeling you get when you begin anew. Every time I’ve started a new business venture, I’ve been hit with a sudden and rather long-lasting surge of positive energy. It’s a feeling I wish I could bottle up and save for the days when I struggle to focus on my daily tasks. Our senses become heightened when we start something new.
I personally love the feeling of how my teeth feel after leaving the dentist—the smooth, glossy sensation I haven’t experienced in well over six months. It’s like bringing my teeth back to a baseline, probably how most people’s teeth feel regularly. That is one of my (perhaps way-too-personal) “New Beginnings.” It may not seem all that significant, but it brings a sense of freshness (no pun intended) to my life.
Or consider freshly cut grass. The sweet aroma fills the air. The visual of uniformly green blades aligned perfectly at the same height. The soft, cool texture of walking barefoot, feeling the grass compress gently beneath our feet. New Beginnings, whether simple or grand, can bring a profound sense of freshness to our lives.
We’re all at different points in our journeys, with unique needs that must be met. Inevitably, there will be moments in life when the grass feels dried out and worn down, sharp and crunchy under our feet. These are the moments when we pause, look across our landscape, take a deep breath, and realize it’s been too long since we’ve shown it love.
We might not love the look or feel of less green grass. But we live with it, and once we give the grass the proper time, attention, and care, it begins to come back. It may not look exactly as it once did, but it becomes a new, slightly different version of the grass we knew—a true New Beginning.
So, continue to show love. And though things may feel and look different, embrace the change and lean into the power of New Beginnings.
